Jackson's Attorneys Demand Evidence

Michael Jackson's legal team are attacking the prosecutors in the pop star's child molestation case, claiming they're holding back vital information, which could be key evidence. The defense team are keen to get their hands on 300 items, including interviews with witnesses and Jackson belongings seized in raids, which they're entitled to see by law. Under California law, the defense must be given "discovery" of prosecution evidence in order to prepare for the trial. A spokesman for Jackson's new attorney Thomas Mesereau says, "Mr Jackson's right to a fair trial is jeopardized by the undue delay of discovery by the prosecution." Jackson's lawyers will go to court in Santa Maria, California, tomorrow to demand the materials be handed over to them immediately. Prosecutors in the case claim the items are still undergoing forensic examination and are not available. Jackson has pleaded not guilty to 10 felony charges of child molestation, administering an intoxicating agent, and conspiracy involving allegations of child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion.
